Performer Biography
AMARCORD, founded by former members of the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022 and is now one of the world's most renowned vocal ensembles.
Critical Reception
Martin Luther categorically rejected Müntzer's liturgy, criticizing his use of old-fashioned Gothic notation and stating that both text and music should originate from the native language.
Composition History
Thomas Müntzer, like Martin Luther, concerned himself with redesigning the liturgy, specifically by introducing the German language for sermons and liturgy so that the congregation could understand.
Historical Context
This album features the musical statements of radical Reformer Thomas Müntzer, which illustrate the changes in liturgy introduced by the Reformation and give sound to the events leading up to the Peasants' War.
