The Talweg Trio, consisting of Sébastien Surel (violin), Éric-Maria Couturier (cello), and Romain Descharmes (piano), includes composers from jazz, tango, rock, and contemporary music in their repertoire.
Album & Artwork
The Talweg Trio chose these three composers because they are linked by a spirit of adventure, crossing folklore, and a hunger for harmony, rhythm, and an explosion of colors.
Composer Biography
Tomás Gubitsch, one of the composers on this album, was the guitarist for "Invisible," an iconic Argentinian rock band of the 80s, and also toured with Astor Piazzolla.
Composition History
Tomás Gubitsch's piece, Contra Vientos y Mareas, was specifically arranged for the Talweg Trio and served as the starting point for this recording project.
Compositional Technique
Tomás Gubitsch's Trois moments is a suite based on three imaginary dances: a quasi-post-tango, a coalition of two Argentinian folk rhythms (Vidala and Chacarera trunca), and a Tango & Roll.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The composers on this album share a common inspiration: the blending of cultures and traditions, with popular music often at the root of their creations.
Album & Artwork
The name "Talweg" is a topographical term of German origin meaning "path of the valley," referring to the confluence of currents flowing from mountain peaks to valleys.
