Composer Biography
Vyacheslav Artyomov, born in Moscow in 1940, spent his formative years under the shadow of World War II and Stalin's rule, followed by the gradual easing of state control in the Soviet Union.
Recording & Production
This album and its companion (DDA 25144) are dedicated to the memory of the composer's friend and colleague, Mstislav Rostropovich, a famous cellist and conductor.
Composition History
Artyomov's breakthrough as a composer came with his Requiem in 1988, which made an enormous impression at its first performances.

Artyomov considers himself an adherent of the Romantic tradition, influenced by Russian folklore, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Scriabin, and traditional Eastern music.
