Johann Sebastian Bach's son Carl Philippe Emmanuel Bach praised these sonatas, stating in 1774 that they were among his father's best works and still sounded very good.

Performer Biography

Ryo Terakado, the violinist on this album, began teaching himself Baroque violin at age 19 and later studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Compositional Technique

Johann Sebastian Bach developed a new style called 'cembalo obbligato' where the harpsichord's right hand plays as a melody instrument, equally important to the violin.

Interpretation

The idea for this recording emerged naturally from violinist Ryo Terakado and harpsichordist Fabio Bonizzoni's shared musical language and appreciation for Bach.
