Gian Francesco Malipiero, born in Venice in 1882, came from a family with a long musical history.

Some of Malipiero's early works, including a Sonata for cello and piano, were later repudiated or excluded from his official catalogue by the composer himself.
Performer Biography
Luca Paccagnella, the cellist on this album, is the director of the 'F. Venezze' Conservatory of Rovigo and has won prestigious awards, including the Grand Prix at the Musique de Chambre competition in Paris in 1990.

Malipiero disliked the academic conformity of his teachers and was interested in both contemporary composers and old masters like Monteverdi and Vivaldi.
