Performer Biography
Alina Ibragimova, the violinist on this recording, performs on an Anselmo Bellosio violin from around 1775, kindly provided by Georg von Opel.
Composition History
Some of Mozart's earliest sonatas, like the Sonata in B flat major, K8, were adapted from solo piano pieces he had written for his elder sister, Nannerl's, musical notebook.
Performer Biography
Cédric Tiberghien, the pianist, won the prestigious Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris in 1998, along with five special awards including the Audience Award.
Composition History
The Sonata in C major, K403, was intended as a gift for Mozart's new wife, Constanze Weber, but remained unfinished and was later completed by composer Maximilian Stadler.
Composer Biography
Mozart's first published compositions, including some of the sonatas on this album, were issued in Paris in 1764 when he was eight years old, though described as seven.
Historical Context
Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, commissioned Mozart's second group of sonatas (K10-16) after he and his sister performed for them in London in 1764.
