Composition History

Much of Platti's music for violoncello, including the works on this album, survives only in the collection of Count Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn in Wiesentheid, making them unique manuscripts.

Composer Biography

Giovanni Benedetto Platti, an oboe virtuoso from Northern Italy, moved to Würzburg in 1722 to join the court chapel of Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn.

Composition History

After the Würzburg court chapel was dissolved in 1724, Platti became a "house composer" for Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn, a cello-loving count and brother of the Prince-Bishop, who commissioned over 60 works.
