Patrick Gallois, the conductor on this album, studied flute with Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris Conservatoire and became principal flute in the Orchestre National de France at age 21.

Maurice Maeterlinck's play "Pelléas et Mélisande" inspired several composers, including Debussy, Schoenberg, Fauré, and Sibelius, who wrote his incidental music for a Swedish version in 1905.
