Performer Biography
Tafelmusik, Canada's award-winning orchestra on period instruments, was founded in 1979 and has been under the leadership of Music Director Jeanne Lamon since 1981.

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra performs on period instruments, meaning instruments from the historical period in which the music was composed.
Composition History
The Galileo Project was created as Tafelmusik's contribution to the United Nations International Year of Astronomy, marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of the telescope in 2009.
Historical Context
Claudio Monteverdi, a composer featured on this album, and Galileo were exact contemporaries, and Galileo even arranged for Monteverdi to procure a Cremonese violin for his nephew.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The project explores the artistic, cultural, and scientific world of 17th- and 18th-century astronomers, using music, words, and images.
